As a child I had expectations, dreams of what I would do when I grew up. Every child has the same dreams, dreams of success, who they will marry, how many children they will have.

Christmas was a time of great expectations also.  What type of gifts would be under the tree.  Question of if we would get the present I had been hoping for.

Parents have expectations of their kids.  Some try to live vicariously through their children.  I am sure my parents had those same hopes for me.  Well, my father wanted me to take up a trade which was the farthest thing in my plans.  My mother just wanted us to be the best of whatever we decided.

Expectations do not always come to fruition, which can bring about a sense of failure, despair, and the ultimate low, depression.

This year has only a few weeks left in it.  The new year starts fresh, clean, and for most hopeful.  Maybe, our expectation is that we won’t make the same mistakes that we did this year.

I tempered my expectations quite a while ago. I take it one hour at at time, one day, one year at a time.

So, here is to expectations, hopes, and dreams of 2020!

I think we need to temper our expectations with HOPE and snuff out feelings of failure. We expect the very best from ourselves and others when we should be striving to do our very best to be the person God assures us we can be. When we fail to live up to our expectations and those of others, we feel we have let them and ourselves down and we have. God on the other hand sees our gift as the Christmas Gift to add to the celebration of God Immanuel. God expects us to hone our gift our craft. Of course in the process we are going to make many mistakes. If we and our neighbors and friends do not appreciate the gift we are shining up and we with their negative spirit try to hide our light under a bushel. Stop right there. We need to persevere. God wants us to SHINE.
