Things Happen

The world is so unpredictable. Things happen suddenly, unexpectedly. We want to feel we are in control of our own existence. In some ways we are, in some ways we’re not. We are ruled by the forces of chance and coincidence. Paul Auster

Everyone wants to feel like they are in control, control over their finances, career, and family. Sometimes, however, that is not always the case, things happen.

It is those surprises that seem to jump up and hit us in the chin. The car breaks down, something at home goes awry, or we find a pink slip attached to our paycheck.

Financial planners will tell you that most do not have enough savings to even meet a $500.00 emergency. When that happens the anxiety and stress levels soar through the roof.

That has been my life for the past several weeks. Bi-weekly doctor appointments trying to diagnose problems in my lower legs and feet. The physician believes it is neuropathy. It is a constant deep burning and aching in my legs and feet. I was sent to have a test done to check on blood circulation in my legs and feet. The test was to see if compression stockings would help, that’s not the answer.

I have now lived in my home for twenty-five years. When I was young I moved around alot. My biggest problem was finance managment, which left me with credit problem. Well, I have been very good over these twenty-five years with keeping all bills current, no bill collectors on the phone. So, I was surprised to get a notification that I was pre-approved for a credit card. I had to fill out a couple of things and about a week later received the card in the mail.

As I said at the beginning, things happen! One afternoon while doing up the dishes I noticed that the water was barely warm. So, the next day I had a guy come and take a look at my water heater, sure enough it was shot and now I needed a new one. At that moment I was happy to be able to use a credit card to buy a new water heater and have it installed within hours. Things happen!

I guess I believe there is a reason for everything, sometimes though you can’t find a reason for the things happening. Once again, you feel a loss of control. The younger me would be in a full panic mode thinking eractically. Things happen!

So dear reader, how do you respond when things happen, unexpected things? Do you freak out, start pulling out your hair, or do you methodically work things through? I would like to hear from you. Leave your comments in the comment section!

I’m ever so slowly learning to breathe through everything. It all passes. It’s how we choose to handle it that makes the difference.

I don’t do well in the first little bit when faced with a crisis usually. I either freak out or do nothing. Once I have a moment to process and get my thoughts straight, I am a planner and I believe I can figure almost anything out.
Like Snuggs, I too am slowly learning to breathe through everything…It’s hard when “everything” can seem to happen at the same time though

Yes Angie, it does help when we learn to breathe through everything!
Having panic attacks taught me that lesson.
